The British Marine Equipment Council (BMEC), established in 1966, is a market orientated trade association representing and promoting the interests of British manufacturers and suppliers of marine equipment and marine services to all types of commercial ships, from the smallest workboats to largest ships afloat.
The British Marine Equipment Association (BMEA) wass one of four Trade Associations federated under the British Marine Equipment Council (BMEC). The other Associations include British Naval Equipment Association (BNEA), Association of British Oil Industries (ABOI), British Oil Spill Control Association (BOSCA), plus an affiliated Ports and Terminals Group (PTG). BMEC provides the basic operating infrastructure for all five Associations and also provides the focal point in dealing with issues across the whole spectrum of activities. BMEC also acts as the main interface with organisations such as the British Trade International, the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), and the European Marine Equipment Council (EMEC).
